My Favorite Missionary Books

I fell in love with missionary work two years before I started my mission when I would teach with the missionaries. As I worked with them I noticed things that I needed to work on and things that the missionaries needed to work on to teach better. This lead me on a quest to seek how I could be the most prepared missionary before I left on my mission. I spent hours studying the scriptures, reading conference talks, and reading mission-prep books. These are the best books that I have read on mission-prep and missionary work. I feel like every pre-missionary and every missionary should read these books.

1. The Highly Effective Missionary

This is my #1 favorite book on missionary work. I can say that it helped me immensely on my mission. It was written by the son of renowned author Steven R. Covey. He served in South London, England, one of the toughest missions in the world and yet he baptised more than 100 people. The techniques in the book cover how to work effectively with members, how to contact effectively, and how to teach simply yet with power . Using the techniques written in this book, I got more than 40 contacts given by members in one lesson. I would 100% recommend every missionary to read this book.

2. The Power of Everyday Missionaries

This book was written by Harvard professor, Clayton Christensen. What I like most about this book are the stories. If a missionary thinks that he is having no success in a hard area, he can just read the stories of how Professor Christensen would teach some of his smartest students in Harvard and how they would gain a testimony of the gospel with ease. Truly, this book shows you how to work smarter in missionary work and harder. It also gives a perspective on how to help more members be involved in the work. This book is a must read for every missionary.
