Dolisie

This article was written by the Zone Leader of Pointe-Noire, Elder Ngeleka, who travels to Dolisie a lot to conduct baptism interviews and go on splits with the missionaries.

Dolisie is the newest city open to missionary work in Congo. It was opened in June 2019.

Dolisie is the third city of Congo Brazzaville and is found in between Pointe-Noire and Brazzaville. It is found on the most beautiful road of the country, road number 2.

Dolisie has only been open to missionary work since June 2019 and has had no missionaries since March 2020. In fact, there have only been 8 missionaries who have ever served in Dolisise since it was opened and no senior couples have been in the city either.

The city has a population of about 80,000 people and they speak two languages, French and Kituba. (To say hi in Kituba its MBOTE YA BENU.)

There isn’t much danger in the city, its generally calm and safe but there isn’t much in the city in term of amusement for tourists and the city has red dirt.

The buses and taxis are also colored red.

Missionary work is a littler harder compared to Brazzaville and Pointe-Noire but its easier than Cameroon. There is only one branch with about 50 members in attendance and before COVID, there were 4 missionaries who stayed in an apartment in “downtown” (centre ville)

The city has about 10 restaurants with different Congolese food (fufu, koko, foumboua etc) But there are also restaurants with international food (French and American)

PS, Elder Hanna here. I always wanted to serve in a village. That was my dream before the mission. Dolisie is the closest place on the mission to serving in a village.

Here is actually a really good video that shows the city with drone shots.

This video shows the centre ville or downtown of the city

Special thanks to Elder Jacob Thompson who let me use his pictures when he was in Dolisie. He was one of the very first missionaries in the city and left because of COVID.
