Amazing Conversion stories from Cameroon and Congo

Conversion story of Brother Romeo Dim

Brother Dim was one of the first members of the church in Douala, Cameroon. His introduction to the church came when he had a dream. He had a dream that there was a temple in the neighborhood of Bonapriso, one of the nicest neighborhoods in Douala. He said that in the dream he walked into the temple and walked through the rooms. Before he woke up, he heard the word “Mormon.” When he woke up, he asked his wife if she knew what “Mormon” was. She said that Mormon was a church. He then went out and started looking for the Mormon church. Someone told him to go somewhere and he went there, and he found nothing. Someone told him that young missionaries would go to a cyber café nearby to write to their families in America. He went to the cybercafé one day and the missionaries were there. He asked them to bring him to the church and they did and today he and his family are all members of the church.

Brother Pavel from Brazzaville, Congo

Brother Pavel was a pastor in Brazzaville, Congo in a big church run by an American missionary. He got paid 200,000 francs ($400) a month (which is 2-3 times the average Congolese salary) and he had his own car, which is a huge luxury in Congo. He loved his job teaching the Bible and being in this church. Then, the American pastor started introducing strange things like bringing black magic into the worship and Pavel felt like this church was going in a bad direction. He wanted to leave. The American pastor offered him even more money if he stayed but Pavel refused, being led by a pure desire to serve God. Pavel later became a street preacher. He would preach on the streets, in the markets, and even on the buses. He was known as being “crazy for Jesus” because he would stand up everywhere and preach. During this time, Pavel took an interest in learning about world famous Christian pastors. He read books about televangelists in the US, great Korean pastors, and European pastors, so that he could learn more truth and emulate them in his ministry. He found a pamphlet about Joseph Smith and liked what he read. He would often see the missionaries walk by his house. He would wave at them and they would wave back. One day, the missionaries approached him and asked him if he would like to learn more. He said he did and was later baptized. Pavel worked with me as a missionary every Saturday teaching for 5 months straight. He never missed a single Saturday. He knew the Bible better than anyone. I love Pavel and is one of the most inspirational people that I met on my mission.
