Amazing Conversion stories from Cameroon and Congo

I read about this story when I was a missionary in Douala, Cameroon.

Conversion story of Brother Romeo Dim

Brother Dim was one of the first members of the Church in Douala, Cameroon. Before he became a member he wanted to know which Church he should join. When he was thinking about this one night he had a dream. He dreamed that he was in a certain neighborhood in Douala and that he saw a magnificent white building. He said that in the dream he went inside the building and walked through the different rooms. Before he woke up, he heard the word “Mormon.” He woke up and asked his wife if she knew what “Mormon” was. She said that Mormon was a church. At 6 am he got up and set off looking for the Mormon Church. He walked all around his neighborhood asking people if they knew where he could find the Mormon Church. In the afternoon someone told him that some missionaries often went to a certain cyber café to write to their families in America so he went there. He met someone there who directed him to the branch meetinghouse. At 4 pm he found the meetinghouse and the missionaries and said that he wanted to be baptized. Today he and his family are all members of the church and he has helped many people join the Church as one of the first members of the Church in Douala.

Brother Pavel from Brazzaville, Congo

Brother Pavel lives in Brazzaville, Republic of the Congo. Before he joined the Church, he was was a pastor in a big church run by an American. He got paid $400 a month which is 3 times the average Congolese salary and he had a personal car, which is a big luxury in Congo. He was living very comfortably being a pastor in this church. Then, according to Pavel, the American pastor started to introduce black magic into the church worship and Pavel felt like the church was going a bad direction and he wanted to leave. The American offered him even more money if he would stay but Pavel refused. Pavel later became a street preacher. He would preach in the markets, on the streets, and on the buses. He was known as being “crazy for Jesus” because he would stand up everywhere and preach. During this time, Fr. Pavel took an interest in learning more about great Christian leaders. He read books about televangelists in the US, Korean pastors, and mega-church pastors so that he could emulate them in his ministry. He fell upon a pamphlet about Joseph Smith. He read it and liked it. Sometimes, he would see the missionaries walk by his house. He would wave at them and they would wave back. One day, the missionaries talked to him and asked him if he would like to learn about the gospel. He accepted and later he was baptized. Pavel worked with me as a missionaries every Saturday for 5 months. He never missed a single Saturday. He helped us teach and knew the Bible better than anyone. He was a huge inspiration to me.
